cold的基本意思是“冷的,寒冷的”,指以体温为标准而感到外界的气温低,常用于指温度或天气。在表示人的感情时还可指“冷淡的,不热情的”,指对某人或某物感到漠不关心,此时多用作定语。
be cold用作谓语时,后面可接动词的现在分词形式。

cold作名词时有二个意思:一是指相对于身体的温度来说,温度较低,使人感到冷,即“冷,寒冷”; 二是指由于天气寒冷而引起的“伤风,感冒”。
cold作“冷,冷天气”解时只用单数形式,且其前须加定冠词the。cold在作“感冒”解时可用作可数名词,也可用作不可数名词,在与catch, take, get连用时,不定冠词a可有可无(英式英语用catch cold,而美式英语用catch a cold),但如果cold前面有形容词修饰,无论哪个动词与之搭配,不定冠词a均不可省略。
cold和have连用时,一般加a,表示状态,常与表示延续时间的状语连用。
